Grounds for Grave Concern: Stuart Prior and Helen Frisby in conversation.
Following their previous successful talk for the Church Monuments Society, Stuart and Helen return to discuss Stuart’s work and life as a gravedigger, unearthing the vital role of these often-overlooked professionals in caring for the dead, the living and the cemetery landscape itself.
The event format will be an interview-style conversation between Stuart, a former gravedigger turned academic, and Helen, an academic historian of folklore. They will also speak about the Grave Communications research project that they are both involved with.
Dr Stuart Prior is a Reader in Archaeological Practice at the University of Bristol. A former gravedigger, he’s previously appeared on Time Team.
Dr Helen Frisby is a historian and folklorist. Her PhD was on Victorian funerals, and she’s previously appeared on The History Channel and BBC radio.

During the webinar:
• Please remain muted throughout.
• The talk will last approximately 45 minutes and will be followed by questions.
• You are welcome to use the Chat box to contact panellists.
• Send formal questions for the speaker using the Q&A function so that they are easily identifiable. These can then be put to the speaker by one of our event coordinators.
• The session may be recorded by the Church Monuments Society. Screenshots and/or recording by participants is not permitted for copyright reasons.
• The host can remove attendees from the webinar.
