Our President, Jean Wilson, will be retiring this year. She has sent us this message about the AGM.
Dear CMS Member,
On Saturday 22nd September 2018 I will hand over to my successor as President of the CMS. For the first time in the Society’s history, the election will be contested. This means that it is important that as many members as possible attend the meeting so that the new President has a clear mandate. The Society’s constitution requires that members vote in person: it is necessary for you to attend if you wish to participate in this important event.
[More details about the candidates and the agenda for the AGM are at https://churchmonumentssociety.org/event/cms-2018-annual-general-meeting.]
The AGM is the only free event available to Members, and we have endeavoured to ensure that it will be interesting. It will be held at St Olave’s Hart Street, in the City of London (close to Fenchurch Street station: nearest Underground is Tower Hill), a church packed with monuments, including that of Mrs Pepys by John Bushnell. We are changing the format from previous meetings, so Jon Bayliss will give members a tour of the brasses, I will give a tour of the other monuments, and our Vice-President, Julian Litten, will speak. The Officers’ Reports will be available to everyone attending, and the Officers will be ready to answer questions on them, but they will not present the reports as has been done in the past.
The day will conclude with refreshments, including wine. It would be helpful – but not essential – if you could let our Secretary, Hilary Wheeler, know if you are coming.
May I also take the opportunity to draw your attention to the Data Protection statement on the web site at https://churchmonumentssociety.org/about/governance? This is also available as hard copy from the Membership Secretary.
I very much hope that I will see as many of you as possible at the AGM.
With best wishes
Jean Wilson
The AGM is for members, but non-members are welcome to join us for the church tour and lecture. Timings are a bit uncertain but the church tour could start at any time after 3 pm. If you want to join us, it would help if you could let the Secretary know.
And to tempt you further, here are a few more photos. No captions: if you want more information, come along on the day!
