Concern about the uncertain future of many of the churches in the Diocese of Lincoln has caused a number of members of the Society for Lincolnshire History & Archaeology to form a churches interest group with a mission to make a photographic record of the county’s churches and raise the level of interest in all aspects of the buildings through lectures, study days and guided visits.

They recently held a successful day at Tattershall where talks included Lincolnshire’s Angel Roofs; local Churches Conservation Trust holdings and the Medieval Glass of Tattershall, this latter being by Dr Penny Hebgin-Barnes.  A visit was made to the remarkable Perpendicular Collegiate church of Holy Trinity in the company of Peter Rogan, the Diocesan Architect who reports on the building in quinquennial surveys.

The next event is a guided outing to Brocklesby and Great Limber.  This will include a rare opportunity to visit James Wyatt’s mausoleum and Joseph Nollekens sculpture of Sophia Aufrere, and the estate church of Brocklesby All Saints where significant monuments from 16^th to 20^th centuries include Jagger’s monument for Lord Worsley who was killed in the First World War.
