Village Green, Bedlam, South Shropshire
This is another of the war memorials in our catch-up programme for Monument of the Month.
The intriguingly-named hamlet of Bedlam, on the west slope of Titterstone Clee in Shropshire, was a quarrying village. This simple war memorial commemorates a surprising number of deaths for a tiny hamlet including four members of the Millichamp family. Were they quarrymen – did they join up as ‘pals’ – and as quarrymen were some of them sappers?
More on the monument at https://www.iwm.org.uk/memorials/item/memorial/13768 (though the location on the IWM map may be a bit out – the memorial is some way to the west of that, at Titterstone Cottages).
