Final details for this study day on 12 August. As well as the Babington monument (Anthony Babington was the leader of a plot to assassinate Queen Elizabeth), we will see monuments of John Hutchinson, who signed Charles I’s death warrant, the Iretons (connected with Oliver Cromwell), and John de Wynwyyck, who fell foul of the Pope. And others including the mad men of Gotham who terrified King John.

11:00 Presentation by Ray State, author of The Alabaster Carvers, on all 5 churches and their monuments.  A Bookstall will be available.

12:00 Lunch and bookstall

13.10 Kingston. [Has a threshold but manageable for wheelchairs with help]. [Toilets and extra parking at village hall]

13:50 Thrumpton. [Accessible – step-free].

14:30 Barton. [Accessible by ramp]. [Toilets in village hall]

15:00 Gotham. [Accessible – step-free]. [Has toilets]

15:00 Coffee break and questions.

15:30-16:00 Disperse.

 

If arriving at East Midlands Parkway (10 minutes’ walk away), we may be able to arrange a volunteer lift to Ratcliffe, but we will need to know well in advance to organise this (please state this on your booking form and the planned time of arrival).

A route map and notes will be supplied on the day. Parking is not a problem but may be a good idea to buddy up in cars between churches. The drive distances between churches are very short.

The cost to CMS, MBS and MMT members is £25 (£30 to non-members). This does include lunch, refreshments at beginning and end of day and donations to the churches.
