Tomb Monuments in Medieval Europe: Volume I, edited by Paul Cockerham and Christian Steer

By CMS in Recent publications

Volume 1 of an exciting new series bringing together twenty-one authors who each consider different aspects of tomb monuments across Europe during the Middle Ages. They take different approaches and use varying methodologies in their focus on individual case-studies and their context as regional studies, at both a local and national level, and by considering the importance of patronage and influence. Essays also reflect on the language, content and meaning of memorial inscriptions, and the development of these monuments of the dead as pan-European works of funerary art in the period up to the Black Death and beyond.
