The Battlefileds Trust’s great database of memorials associated with the Wars of the Roses is now live at https://www.battlefieldstrust.com/wotrmemorial/
The Trust says:
‘This database concerns the memorialisation of the series of conflicts known collectively as the Wars of the Roses. It includes both contemporary memorials (primarily funerary monuments and buildings such as memorial churches) and more modern memorials (including landscape features associated with Wars, plaques and information boards) which relate to events concerning and key figures associated with the Wars of the Roses between 1450 and 1499. It covers monuments primarily in the British Isles but also elsewhere. Such memorials can be extant or non-extant. ‘

We welcome contributions on a range of topics related to monuments and commemoration. Initial enquiries about substantial articles for possible publication in the Journal should be sent to the Editor. Shorter articles and news items can be published in the Newsletter. This is a fantastic initiative! Given that the database also covers memorials outside the British Isles, I’m curious if there are any notable examples in continental Europe (like France or Burgundy) that highlight the international connections of the figures involved in the Wars of the Roses?

The new memorial database makes research on Wars of the Roses monuments far more accessible. How can digital history projects ensure that users understand the uncertainties and debates behind the data, rather than viewing the database as a fully complete historical record?
